Savage Rifle Barrels and Accessories - Custom Accuracy Barrels for Savage Rifles, Trigger and Scope Systems

So far I've put a Rifle Basix Trigger on it, put a decent Nikon scope on it, and painted the plastic stock with a camo pattern. I normally can get 1" groups at yards with Federal Fusion grain ammo. I just got a reloader, but haven't worked up loads yet. I felt solid behind the gun with the bipod, so what was the deal? I have upgraded the scope and trigger, but I have yet to upgrade the stock.

So what was happening is that the bipod was torquing my forearm and putting pressure on my barrel. It was twisting and turning all over the place. I have a sporter contour barrel that is very susceptible to heat and any kind of pressure. So now that I have seen how my cheap stock can negatively affect accuracy, getting a better stock is now at the top of my list of modifications.

My list looks something like this now: A Good stock Harris Bi-pod Premium Scope and Mounts A Shillen or Similar quality barrel My rifle is used primarily at a range, but also as my hunting rifle. I shoot on private land so I am able to shoot from a variety of positions. I do however want the best possible accuracy out of my rifle but retain it's ability to take into the field.

I'm looking at 3 different stock options, and would like opinions. My issue with this option is that they are only for sporter contour barrels, this would interfere with me putting a heavier premium barrel on a some point.

I am a competent woodworker and could modify it.

I am personally thinking this will be the route I go. The third option would be the most expensive.

This has the most options. What are your opinions. We have a winner. I'm going to get that paint it up, I've already researched how to paint it. Krylon Fusion seems to be the best bet. This looks like the most and best bang for my buck. Thanks for being the only person to answer avolcek. I was interested to see your post because I am going through the same decision process with my Savage 11 in. It's the same as your except with a Short Action. I have been considering the Boyds Tacticool stock for Centerfire Rifles but they only offer the blind magazine option.

My rifle came with a centerfeed Detacable Box Magazine. I can disassemble the box magazine to make it a blind mag, but I am not sure I want to do this.

Boyd offers a Featherweight Thumbhole stock for Savage 11 that includes the DBM option. I talked to customer service and this is the only stock they offer that accommodates Savage new-style centerfeed DBM.

I am also considering the Bobbie Hart LTR stock from Stocky's Stocks but they are also limited to a blind magazine. I asked CS if they were working on this for Savage but she wouldn't comment.

Gun Build: Customizing a Savage

I am also considering a McMillan A-3 Sporter. They still don't offer support for Savage centerfeed DBM but I might be able to do that myself. I have a router table set up with a sled that allows me to make very fine positional adjustments to the workpiece.

I know I can order bottom plastic from Sharp Shooters Supply. Maybe Ill make due with the Boyds Featherweight Thumbhole for a while and make a pattern from it for other more expensive stocks.

If you want a replacement stock for Savage, check out E Arthur Brown eabco. He has Choate and Hogue stocks for better prices than I have seen anywhere else. Actually going through the same I have a with dbm in win mag. I own a howa in a with the houge overmold stock. It is not thr full beaded stock but I love it. With factory ammo and a bone stock rifle I can get three shots to touch.
